PARIS June 18. 2023 (Saba) - At least three people, including two soldiers, were killed on Saturday in light plane crashed in a mountainous area southern France, according to what the French army and the regional prosecution announced.
The French Press Agency quoted regional prosecutor Patrice Campero, as saying an investigation has been opened to find out the cause of the plane crash near the village of Gonfaron in the Var department in southern France.
Criminal and forensic investigators went to the scene.
The Southern Command of the French Army announced that two of the three victims were military personnel working at the training base of the Second Combat Helicopter Regiment close to the scene.
The Civil Protection stated earlier that it had received a call regarding a plane accident that led to a fire in the surrounding vegetation, which was quickly extinguished.
It said the location of the aircraft was determined with the help of firefighting helicopters.
