NEW YORK April 30. 2024 (Saba) - Khan Younis, the "second largest city in the Gaza Strip," which was home to more than 200,000 people before the Zionist aggression, is now a "ghost town," said Save the Children International.
The organization said in a press release on Monday, following a visit by an assessment mission to the area on April 25, that each building seen by members of the mission was "either severely damaged or rubble on the ground," with "some people returning to protect what remains of their belongings and belongings."
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and UNRWA observed the same scenes of mass destruction during a separate visit to Gaza City.
According to an interim assessment by the World Bank, more than 60 per cent of residential buildings and nearly 80 per cent of commercial facilities were damaged or destroyed in Gaza between October 2023 and January 2024, with 80 per cent of total damage concentrated in Gaza, North Gaza, and Khan Younis governorates.
Save the Children International said it observed many children walking "alone" through destroyed streets, dangerously close to destroyed or semi-destroyed buildings, where many were carrying heavy containers, potentially full of water.
