GAZA April 30. 2024 (Saba) - The General Directorate of Civil Defense estimated that there are more than ten thousand missing people who are still under the rubble of hundreds of destroyed buildings in the Gaza Strip since the start of the Zionist-American aggression until today, and the competent crews have not been able to recover their bodies.
The directorate said in a statement on Tuesday: These missing people are not included in the statistics of martyrs issued by the Ministry of Health because the bodies were not recorded in hospitals, and therefore the number of martyrs exceeds more than 44,000.
It stressed that the crews continue to carry out their humanitarian duty towards the Palestinian people amid the continuation of the Zionist-American aggression on the Gaza Strip for more than 200 days, despite the great deficit they have reached in terms of the lack of equipment, vehicles and mechanisms necessary to search for the missing under the rubble of houses and buildings destroyed by the targeting of the occupation, and its destruction of heavy machinery and cows since the early days of the aggression.
It pointed out that thousands of citizens lost their lives as a result of the inability to reach them and rescue them from under the piles of rubble, since the beginning of the aggression until today.
It added that it received many appeals from parents and volunteer youth teams to support individual efforts and initiatives in attempts to extract the bodies of martyrs in a number of houses and residential buildings that have been destroyed for several months, in order to honor the martyrs by burying them instead of keeping their bodies under the rubble.
It continued: "We had no choice but to respond to these initiatives out of a sense of national and humanitarian responsibility, and to stand by our people and support them.
It stressed that with the lack of heavy equipment such as boats and excavators, these efforts will remain insufficient and do not meet the minimum needs needed to recover the bodies of thousands of martyrs.
It estimated that the implementation of this primitive mechanism will take two to three years, especially since UN officials estimated that the occupation bombardment left at least 37 million tons of rubble and rubble in all governorates of the Gaza Strip.
