GAZA May 02. 2024 (Saba) - The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas praised the position of Colombian President Gustavo Pietro, who announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the Zionist enemy entity.
The movement said in a statement on Thursday: "We highly appreciate the position of President Petro, who announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the occupying Zionist entity, in light of the continuation of the war of extermination committed by the Nazi occupation army against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip."
Hamas called the Colombian president's position "a victory for the sacrifices of the Palestinian people and their just cause."
In this regard, it called on South American countries and all countries to "completely sever their diplomatic relations" with the Zionist entity, which she described as "a rogue fascist entity that continues its crimes against the Palestinian people and flouts all international laws and norms."
Earlier on Wednesday, Colombian President Gustavo Pietro announced that his country would cut diplomatic relations with the Zionist entity starting Thursday, due to the ongoing "Tel Aviv" war on the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at a celebration in the capital Bogota of International Workers' Day, which falls on the first of May each year, Pietro attributed the decision to sever relations to "the existence of a government and a president (in the Zionist entity) who practice genocide."
"The era of genocide and the extermination of a people before our eyes cannot return," he said. "If Palestine dies, humanity dies."
