GAZA May 02. 2024 (Saba) - Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas' political bureau, agreed in a phone call with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani to complete talks to mature an agreement mediated by Qatar and Egypt to achieve "our demands and stop the aggression."
In the call, he discussed the latest developments in the negotiations on the cessation of aggression against the Palestinian people.
The head of the movement praised Qatar's role in mediating and stressed Hamas' positive spirit in studying the ceasefire proposal it recently received.
Haniyeh had held a phone call with Egyptian Intelligence Minister Major General Abbas Kamel about ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas said in a statement that Haniyeh praised the role played by Egypt during the call, stressing "the positive spirit of the movement in studying the ceasefire proposal."
Haniyeh pointed out that "the movement's delegation will come to negotiations with Egypt as soon as possible to complete the ongoing talks with the aim of ripening an agreement that meets the demands of our people and stops the aggression."
Egyptian media reports said "positive progress" had been made in negotiations to reach a truce agreement in the Gaza Strip amid intensive contacts by Cairo with all parties.
Hamas announced last Saturday that it had received the Israeli response to its position, which was handed over to the Egyptian and Qatari mediators on the thirteenth of April, noting that it "will study this proposal and once it is completed, it will deliver its response."
