GENEVA May 08. 2024 (Saba) - The Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said today that the amount of fuel in hospitals in the southern Gaza Strip is only enough for three days.
Ghebreyesus said on platform X on Wednesday that "fuel in hospitals in southern Gaza is only enough for three days, which means that their work may stop soon."
"One of the three hospitals in Rafah, al-Najjar Hospital, is out of service due to the military operation in Rafah," he said, warning that the closure of the border crossing continues to prevent the UN from bringing in fuel, without which all humanitarian operations will stop, and also impede the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
"While limited humanitarian operations need to be scaled up urgently, the Rafah military operation further limits our access to thousands of people living in dire conditions without food, without sanitation facilities, without health services and without adequate security," the WHO Director said. "This must stop now." He added.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has caused a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, which has a population of 2.4 million, and has so far led to the death of 34,844 citizens, the injury of more than 78,404, massive destruction in the Strip, and the occurrence of famine.
