Ninth Ramadan Lecture Presented by Al-Sayyid Abdul Malik Badruddin Al-Houthi, 1443 A. H.
I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan, the outcast.
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
Praise is to Allah, the Lord of Worlds. I believe that there is no god but Allah, He is the Sovereign and the Manifest Truth; and that Muhammad, our master, is His servant, messenger, and last prophet.
O Allah, confer Your Salat (prayers) and blessings upon Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad just as You conferred Your Salat (prayers) and blessings upon Ebrahim and the Family of Ebrahim. You are Owner of Praise, Owner of Glory! And be pleased with Muhammad good companions and all Your righteous servants and mujahedeen.
Brothers and sisters, peace be upon you, as well as the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
O Allah, guide us and grant us acceptance, for You are the All-Hearing and the All-knowing; accept our repentance, for You are the Most Relenting and the Most Merciful.
One of the benefits of fasting the blessed month of Ramadan is that it helps us obtain Taqwa, and what makes us gain this practical fruit is patience, which we obtain through fasting as a result of enduring thirst and hunger and having control over the desires of the soul. So, we, through fasting, get used to practice endurance: psychological endurance in controlling the desires of the soul and physical endurance in enduring hunger and thirst according to the different conditions.
Patience is an important title, and it is one of the key requirements of success in all important fields; however to some, patience is an annoying subject. They always cannot see it apart from the specter of suffering and hardship, and when they hear the word patience, they think of it as an equivalent to bitter.
Patience is essential to work, and there is no doubt about this as it is experienced in the life of every one of us, in the living affairs and conditions of all people, sometimes on a daily basis. Indeed, people often face what requires patience and endurance. It is a well-known issue among people regardless of their living conditions.
As they work, farmers do know that patience is a must. They even find patience attractive when their patience is rewarded with great results in the end and they start reaping the fruit of their efforts after exercising endurance and patience, the fruit of their agricultural efforts.
The same is true for merchants, workers, etc. People realize the need to exercise patience while trying to meet the requirements of this life; the more they believe in the importance of the cause or whatever they are trying to achieve, the more they are willing to exercise patience and pay serious efforts whether at the level of livelihood seeking activities or other more serious levels. The issue is fundamentally related to the extent to which a person interacts with and believes in the cause for which s/he exercises patience.
When it comes to faith, patience is essential to faith: Patience to faith is like the head to the body, as narrated about [the Prophet]. It is also helpful when it comes to good deeds, and that is why patience is among the main characteristics of Muttaqin in the Holy Quran: {'And who are patient in times of suffering, adversity'} [Al-Baqarah 2: 177]. So, patience is an essential characteristic for them, and it is a means to overcome all difficulties, {'in times of suffering, adversity '}.
Allah (Glory be to Him) says, {'O believers! Patiently endure, persevere, stand on guard, and be mindful of Allah, so you may be successful '}[Ali 'Imran 3: 200]. This is what Allah (Glory be to Him) has commanded the believers based on their affiliation to faith, because patience is essential to fulfilling faith-based commitments, responsibilities, and duties.
He (Glory be to Him) also says, {'O you who have attained faith, seek help through patience and prayers. Indeed, Allah is with the patient ones '} [Al-Baqarah 2: 153]. So, patience is also a means that helps us fulfill our responsibilities and carry out our duties; patience is basically a psychological issue: strength of will, determination, high morale, and endurance. However, all of this, as we have said, depends on the extent of your belief in the cause you are patient for.
For example, at the livelihood-seeking level, people see a sufficient motive to exercise patience and endurance in what they regard as necessities to their life and livelihood; they find the outcomes of that patience attractive, and the greater outcomes they achieve, the more satisfied they feel about their patience and effort. This applies to all fields of life—the aspirations of people in their lives; their needs and hopes; what they reach; and what they achieve in their political affairs, economic affairs, and their various affairs.
In the practical field of carrying out our responsibilities, adhering to Allah's commands, and curbing our inclination of the soul, patience is essential to our faith-based affiliation. This is self-evident and noticeable, as people need patience in all matters: In other words, there is no direction in life in which you do not need patience or in which you do not need to face psychological or physical troubles. Patience is a must. However in the path of faith, a person can enjoy more aiding factors, more motives, and greater results than in any other path. Therefore, in the path of faith, the person needs to have determination to exercise patience, stick to it, and take an irrevocable decision on that: When seeking the path of faith, the person needs to believe in the inevitability of exercising patience and to take an irrevocable decision on that. Indeed, this is an essential issue: Allah (Glory be to Him) says, {'But if you are patient and mindful [of Allah]—surely this is a resolve to aspire to '}[Ali 'Imran 3: 186], and tells about what Luqman instructed his son to preserve, {'and endure patiently whatever befalls you. Surely this is that is of the resolved matters '}[Luqman 31: 17]—which means determined matters that are inevitable, important, and normal to occur, so they are not a disaster!
Allah has cleared the path for us to turn to Him and seek His support when exercising patience, for Allah says, {'Be patient, for your patience is only with Allah’s help'}[An-Nahl 16: 127]. So, the path is clear for you to turn to Allah (Glory be to Him) and ask Him to pour down more patience upon you: {'Our Lord, pour down patience upon us'}[ Al-Baqarah 2: 250]. Difficulties and hardships that require patience differ, as some cases require us to exercise more patience than other cases, leading some people into a state of great anguish. However, Allah has opened the door for you to ask for His help: {‘For your patience is only with Allah’s help '}[ An-Nahl 16: 127]. You do need Allah (Glory be to Him) in that, and the Holy Quran contains important prayers on this, {'Our Lord, pour down patience upon us and strengthen our foothold and support us against the denying people'}—in the field of Jihad and steadfastness for the sake of faith and truth. {'Let us die as Muslims'}[Al-A'raf 7: 126].
Faith-based patience has to do with reliance on Allah (Glory be to Him) and trusting Him: When the person believes in the great results Allah has promised for the patient, then s/he would be more willing to exercise patience because s/he is certain and has firm belief that s/he can enjoy such desired results; reliance on Allah also leads to patience and endurance due to your belief in the results Allah have promised you.
In this life, we can notice how great the difference is between the worker who is certain that s/he will be paid without delay by the one who hired him/her and that s/he might even receive additional payment, and the worker who is not certain that s/he will get paid and rather expects the one who is working for to keep procrastinating or even deprive him/her of his/her rights. The latter is expected to perform the work with hesitation, anxiety, and discomfort and without due care.
In the path of faith, believers rely on Allah and do believe in the desired results that Allah has promised those who are patient, for Allah says about them: {'Those are the ones who endured patiently, and in their Lord they place their trust '}[An-Nahl 16: 42]. They realize the value of their patience and its results, and they are not desperate or in doubt of the usefulness of their patience: {'And those who observe patience in order to seek the pleasure of their Lord'} [Ar-Ra'd 13: 22].
When we come to the desired goals of patience and the important results that Allah spoke about in the Holy Quran and promised to those who are patient among His faithful servants, we find a lot of things that greatly motivate us to exercise patience:
First on the list is enjoying the support of Allah (Glory be to Him), for He says, {'And be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient'}[Al-Anfal 8: 46]. This grants the person every good and every success, for it is essential for achieving all desired goals. {'Indeed, Allah is with the patient '}: He is with them; knows their conditions, sufferings, and circumstances; helps them; supports them; makes their steps firm; grants them success. So, He will take great care of them and grant them the great results and desired goals: {'Indeed, Allah is with the patient '}. If a person doesn’t depend on Allah's support or take it into consideration, or turns away from patience and his/her faith-based commitment, that is a very serious issue that comes nowhere obtaining Taqwa, nor it is in harmony with Taqwa. How should that reflect on the patience of a person when s/he feels that Allah is with him/her, that s/he is not alone in facing troubles, difficulties, challenges, and dangers, that Allah is with him/her as his/her supporter, refuge, and helper? This issue has a very important impact on the morale level of the person—patience is a moral state in the first place.
Allah also promised the patient to obtain His love: {'And Allah loves the patient ones'}[Ali 'Imran 3: 146]—this verse is of frequent occurrence in the Holy Quran. This is a great benefit and gain for you—as a humble servant who stands in need of Allah (the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth, the One to Whom belongs the heavens and the earth, the One Who arranges the affaires of the heavens and the earth, our great Lord)—to obtain His love and become among His Auliya with all that comes with it: great honour, divine providence, and divine arrangement of your affairs based on His love for you. Indeed, great are the results, honour, and providence that come with Allah's love (Glory be to Him)
Allah also promised great reward that includes many great things in this life and the Hereafter: Allah (Glory be to Him) says, {'And We will most surely repay those who were patient their reward in accordance with the best of what they used to do'}[ An-Nahl 16: 96]. So, Allah (Glory be to Him) will never let your suffering and effort you patiently made, go unrewarded. Indeed, that is rewardable, and nothing of it can escape Allah's notice. Therefore, you need to remember this. Remember this when you feel boredom, some distress, some fatigue, or some hesitation: Your effort and suffering for the sake of Allah (Glory be to Him) will never go unrewarded. Rather, Allah (Glory be to Him) will reward you in full and in a great scale, for He knows all your conditions: He is the One Who said, {'Indeed, the patient ones will be rendered their reward in full without measure'}[ Az-Zumar 39: 10]. So, reward for patience is very great and huge, and it is beyond imagination. {'Indeed, the patient ones will be rendered their reward in full without measure'}—like when they say a blank check. What a great reward it is! It is beyond imagination!
At the practical level that has to do with the immediate reward in this life seen in achieving success, patience is a must. In the field of Jihad for the sake of Allah (where efforts are made to stand up to the wicked and tyrants and where the believers strive to fulfill their responsibilities to become a free, honourable, independent ummah free from any control by the tyrants, the unjust who seek corruption on the earth), patience is essential for gaining victory. For any nation that moves in this path (to become a free nation acting according to the guidance of Allah, Glory be to Him, and based on its affiliation to faith), Allah's promise is accompanied with patience: {'If there are twenty steadfast among you, they will overcome two hundred'}[ 8: 65]. Gaining victory in the battel depends on the extent of patience, the extent of patience.
In standing up to the schemes of the enemies and their plots, as well as all forms of their aggression, we need patience and Taqwa in doing what is required: {'Yet if you persevere patiently and become mindful [of Allah]}—the kind of patience accompanied with paying efforts and Taqwa that has to do with doing what is necessary for carrying out responsibilities—{their plots will not harm you at all'}[Ali 'Imran 3: 120]. All their plots and schemes will eventually fall and vanish, and the results that the enemies wanted from behind them will not be achieved.
Allah (Glory be to Him) also says, {‘How many small groups have overcome the large groups by the will of Allah. And Allah is with the patient’}[Al-Baqarah 2: 249]. So, that has to do with how much patience [a person is willing to exercise].
For getting divine support as well, patience is a must. {‘Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allah and they [i. e., the enemy] come upon you [attacking] in rage, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels having marks’}[Ali ‘Imran 3: 25]. This divine promise for the believers with the Messenger (PBUH&F) depends on patience itself to be fulfilled.
With regard to the general goal that leads to all success, gaining the good, and achieving great and important results, Allah (Glory be to Him) says, {‘O believers! Patiently endure, persevere, stand on guard, and be mindful of Allah, so you may be successful’}. His saying, {‘So you may be successful’} indicates that great results will be achieved, that hard, serious circumstances will be something of the past, and that desired results Allah has promised will be reached: victory in the field of Jihad and great results at the moral level and what comes true in reality, as well as important and great results in the Hereafter—{‘So you may be successful’}.
In addition, with regard to gaining the pleasure of Allah and His Jannah and salvation from His torment (which are great goals for a believer), patience is a must. The value of patience will be revealed on the Day of Resurrection as well as in Jannah. The great value of patience will be revealed as well as its amazing, great, important results.
Allah (Glory be to Him) says—He talks to the people of Fire, and He explains to them how His Auliya have won, how believers have won, and how those who have been honest have responded, despite all they have faced in this worldly life of fight, ridicule, mockery, hostility, particular hardships and difficulties, and particular challenges. Allah (Almighty) says, {‘Today I have indeed rewarded them for what they endured patiently; it is they who are the triumphant ones’}[Al-Mu’minun 23: 111]. What a great result! {‘Today I have indeed rewarded them’}, for their patience: They were patient with ridicule, mockery, rumors, all kinds of fighting, facing all kinds of hardships and challenges. In the end, they have won, gained the greatest result, and gained the greatest win that is like no other at all: {‘It is they who are the triumphant ones’}.
Even in how angels congratulate believers in their palaces in Jannah, after they [believers] arrive at their palaces. These are amazing moments and amazing times, in which they live the greatest happiness and the greatest delight. After they arrive at their palaces in Jannah, as well as their splendid homes, angels visit them to their homes in Jannah to congratulate them and to praise them for what they have gained (this great abiding): {‘And the angels will enter upon them from every gate’}[Ar-Ra’d 13: 23]. Huge crowds of angels visit them in their homes. {‘Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home’'}[Ar-Ra’d 13: 24]: They [angels] tell them [believers], when they greet them and congratulate them, that this is the result of their patience. So, notice how great that result is. {‘Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home’}: You have arrived in the Jannah of Allah, to the eternal happiness, and to the rejoicing life.
So, a person sees then that all the suffering s/he might have gone through at the mental level or at the physical level is nothing compared with that great result that has come true, the great gain s/he has triumphed and won.
Allah (Glory be to Him) says, {‘And He rewarded them for their perseverance with a Garden and [garments of] silk’}[Al-Insan 76: 12], and the details in Surah Al-Insan talk about that.
Thus, all these great results are encouraging to exercise patience. Also, we can see that patience is a natural matter in the circumstances of this life, it is of the usual practices that people practice. Even, people get used to many matters that need patience at first, and then people get used to them: They then gain the power of determination, the power of will, the power of endurance, and the power of persistence. This is a clear issue in people’s circumstances and in their lives: We find that those who provide the most, work the most, pay the most effort, and continue doing that [work, effort… etc.] have got used to do a lot of work that is important, to the degree that they feel emptiness, inaction, boredom, weariness, and dullness when not practicing that kind of work. They enjoy work and paying effort, and they have become (in relation to the level of their work, effort, and persistence) professionals, well-trained, and used to doing things that are difficult to most of other people who have not got used to them, practiced them, or been trained to do them.
When we come to patience as a state in human’s life in relation to faith-based aspects which are great and important, we find great examples in the life-history of the prophets (Peace be upon them), starting with the Messenger (PBUH&F), who was repeatedly ordered to be patient in the Holy Quran. So, he responded to Allah (Glory be to Him) and was patient—patience at the highest level, at an elegant, great level. He also endured too many things, so he transcended to great levels and achieved great results.
Allah tells him [the Messenger (PBUH&F)] in the Holy Quran, {‘So be patient with your Lord’s decree, and do not be like [Jonah] the Man of the Whale’}[Al-Qalam 68: 48], as he was moving in calling to Allah, in conveying the message, in establishing the religion of Allah, and in guiding the servants of Allah. So, he faced—starting from the society of Mecca, which was the first society he moved in—denial, threats, hinder, opposing, untrue rumors, defamation, and cursing, as well as all kinds of propaganda and doubts directed at all that he came with. So, severe hostility, horrible offences, daily provocations, and terrible harassment were all used against him. Therefore, Allah (Glory be to Him) says, {‘So be patient’}: Be patient, keep moving in your path, and continue your job. And he was indeed patient (PBUH&F). {‘So be patient with your Lord’s decree, and do not be like [Jonah] the Man of the Whale’}, who hastened.
Prophet Yunus (PBUH), who hastened and left his people before completely fulfilling his role in conveying the message to them, got distressed and hopeless due to the denial of his people. Therefore, he thought that he had finished what he had to do and delivered what he had to deliver, so he left, leading to his well-known story in the Holy Quran: He went on a ship in the sea, got thrown to the sea, got swallowed by a whale, and then Allah relieved his suffering and made him continue his duty. But all of what happened to him was because he was not as patient as he had to be: To continue till Allah would permit. He hastened.
Allah tells His Prophet (PBUH&F), {‘So be Patient’}, and He also commands him, {‘And follow what is revealed to you, and be patient until Allah passes His judgment’}[Yunus 10: 109]: Continue, finish your duty, and be committed to what is revealed to. {‘And follow what is revealed to you’}, so follow it even if you faced criticism, offence, propaganda war, military war, or other kinds of war. That should not stop you or hinder you from following what Allah revealed to you. Be patient in the face of all you face {‘until Allah passes His judgement’}. So, be patient and the result will come; the release will come; and Allah will pass His judgement, regardless of the hardships, challenges, dangers, sufferings, difficulties, fights, great conspiracies, and great plots created by the enemies. The result will be fruitful!
Allah tells him [His Messenger], {‘So be patient, for the promise of Allah certainly is true. And do not be disturbed by those who have no sure faith’}. So, be patient and preserve, because Allah has promised you victory and great results. {‘And do not be disturbed by those who have no sure faith’}. That is because those who have no sure faith get hopeless; they want to stop in the middle of the way, in the middle of the distance, before getting to the result. They get tired, despair, deviate, hesitate, and propose wrong suggestions which contain nothing but going backwards, hopelessness, surrender, and quitting the important, great, sacred way. And this is the state of those who have no firm faith because they have not gotten faith, they have not gotten the will needed to patiently preserve, to endure, and so to be patient.
{‘And do not be disturbed’} means that they [those who have no firm faith] hurry you either to stop or hurry you to take steps or acts whose time is not due yet. The state of steadfastness in holding to the guidance of Allah (Glory be to Him) and the wise march in the divine instructions and guidance requires patience, so there is no unneeded hasten and no unneeded going backwards.
Allah says to His messengers (PBUH&F), {'So endure patiently, as did the messengers of Firm Resolve'}[Al-Ahqaf 46: 35]. Even messengers had to be patient, for there is no great work with marvellous results—through which a person achieves tremendous honour, great bounty, and well-deserved reward; gains positive results in reality and life; and through which Allah causes major changes in reality—without patience. Prophets and messengers are our perfect role models in patience: They preserved patience. For them, things were not as easy as one may think: Being messengers and prophets, they would be able to achieve things easily with no need for preserving patience or facing difficulties, troubles, or sufferings; or as if they were pampered by Allah and things were getting done for them without fatigue or effort. No! As prophets and messengers, they had to be patient in the face of all suffering within their responsibilities. Their patience was infinite because their responsibilities and duties were very substantial and great, and the circumstances they had and the challenges they encountered were extremely difficult.
The Holy Quran highlights the prophets' patience in detail; the purpose behind showing the patience of some of them and providing some models for us (as Muslims and righteous people) is to learn to exercise patience. Allah (Glory be to Him) says about a group of them, {‘And [mention] Isamel and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient’ }[Al-Anbiya 21: 85]. Those were some of Allah's prophets who were so patient that patience became part of their basic and marked characteristics. {‘The patient’}—they became {‘of the patient’}.
Patience made Ismael (PBUH) reach a very high status of sacrifice when he and his father Ebrahim underwent the slaughter-trial story. Magnificently, he said to his father, {‘O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the patient’}[As-Saffat 37: 102],  which means patient about slaughter. Ismael made it clear that if Allah’s order for him to be killed had been given, he would accept and be patient: {‘You will find me, if Allah wills, of the patient'}[As-Saffat 37: 102].
The Holy Quran also sheds light on Ya‘qub (PBUH) in his ordeal with his sons in the story of Prophet Yusuf. As his ordeal with his sons repeated itself, every time Ya’qub said, {'So beautiful patience'}[Yusuf 12: 18]. The patience he exercised was the beautiful kind of patience with solemnity and with no complaint or screaming: {'So beautiful patience'}[Yusuf: 18].
Also, the story of Allah's prophet Yusuf (PBUH) when he said to his brothers at the end [of his story], {'Allah has truly been gracious to us. Surely whoever is mindful [of Allah]and patient, then certainly Allah never discounts the reward of the good-doers'} [Yusuf 12: 90].
In the ordeal of Prophet Ayyub (PBUH), we find patience about different types of troubles, difficulties, hardships, and pains. This emphasizes the importance of patience in the face of all different conditions and various circumstances. Prophet Ayyub (PBUH) was very patient about his health and psychological ordeal, which was extremely hard; he endured patiently and, therefore, received a wonderful testimony from Allah (Glory be to Him): {'We truly found him patient'}[Sad 38: 44]. This is great praise from Allah (Glory be to Him). Prophet Ayyub had a test, through which his patience was manifested; he successfully passed it. Although it was a difficult test that caused physical and psychological suffering, he was extremely patient, enduring the severe pain and suffering during a long period of time. So, he received high praise from Allah: {'We truly found him patient. What an excellent servant [he was]! Indeed, he [constantly]turned to Allah'} [Sad 38: 44]. In the end, we can see how Allah relieved his distress.
Allah also relieved the distress of His prophets Ya‘qub, Yusuf, and Ismail (Peace be upon them). He redeemed Prophet Ismail with a great ransom. Thus, patience has great and hopeful results. Allah said in praise of Ayyub, {'What an excellent servant!'}. Allah praised, thanked, and gave him the great reward and the substantial grace in this world and the hereafter: {'Indeed, he [constantly] turned to Allah'}.
Still another model of patience is that of prophet Musa (PBUH) when he took a great responsibility and played a significant role in saving his people from the tyranny of Firaawn (Pharaoh) and his people, which caused him to face lots of difficulties and challenges to the extent that Firaawn ordered that the sons of those who believed in or affected by Musa be killed: {'Said Musa to his people, "Seek help through Allah and be patient}—which means to seek Allah's help by being patient—{Indeed,  the earth belongs to Allah. He causes to inherit it who He wills of His servants, and the [best] outcome is for the righteous'}[Al-A'raf 7: 128]. Indeed, seeking help from Allah along with patience through continuous and practical response led to achieving the great result, which many of them were desperate about: Allah saved them from that difficult situation. In the end, He said, {'And the fair Word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because of their endurance'} [Al-A'raf 7: 137]. That happened because they were patient and continued to stick to their practical response despite the sacrifice, pain, suffering, and practice of slaughtering children and sparing women. {'And We destroyed completely all the great works and buildings which Pharaoh and his people erected'}[Al-A’araf 7: 137]: Allah saved them from that horrific situation, and after few years they experienced completely different conditions; He relieved them completely. This happened only because of patience.

The divine providence, which provides the believing ummah with great guidance and entrusts it with a constructive, great role to play in the reality of life, requires patience. In addition, Allah says about the sons of Israel [who were] with the prophets, {‘We raised from among them leaders, guiding by Our command, when they patiently endured and firmly believed in Our signs’}[ As-Sajdah 32: 24]. When they were, at certain periods of time, an ummah that is patient and faithful to Allah's signs, Allah chose leaders from the righteous among them to guide human society: Guiders through them this very important role comes true in the reality of life—{‘guiding by Our command’'}. But all of that required patience: {'When they patiently endured and firmly believed in Our signs’}. That is because certainty goes hand in hand with patience: Only those people of certainty can preserve patience.
Among the faith-based characteristics of the believers is patience: They keep to it [being patient], and they accustom themselves to it. Allah says about them, {‘Who are patient'}, as the first of their characteristics. {'Who are patient, sincere, obedient, and charitable, and who pray for forgiveness before dawn'}[Ali 'Imran 3: 17]. So, patience comes at the top of the list of their characteristics: {‘Who are patient'}.
Allah also says about them, {'patient men and women'}[Al-Ahzab 33: 35], because patience is required from all (men and women) in the reality of faith. Patience is required even at the family level, in sacrificing, and in facing sufferings and hardships in the framework of carrying out responsibilities and obeying the commands of Allah (Glory be to Him): He says about them, {'Who patiently endure whatever may befall them'}[Al-Hajj 22: 35].
So, we see how essential this characteristic is in the Prophets and Messengers. Allah told His Prophet, {‘So endure patiently, as did the Messengers of Firm Resolve’}[Al-Ahqaf 46: 35].  Then comes the reality of faith, as patience is essential when it comes to testing people: Allah (Glory Be to Him) says, {‘And We will surely test you until We make evident those Mujahidin [who strive for the cause of Allah] among you and those who are patient’}[Muhammad 47: 31]—to know who truly remain patient and so continue fulfilling their responsibilities, doing their duties, and remaining steadfast in holding to what is right.
Then when it comes to the disastrous consequences of not having patience in its proper direction, there will be too dangerous consequences:
In the worldly life, the enemies of Allah cannot dominate people; injustice cannot control; tyrants cannot have the ability [power]; corruption cannot be rampant; and evil and falsehood cannot prevail unless this Ummah loses its patience in carrying out its responsibilities, such responsibilities that prevent all of that.
People will never suffer and fail in all the important matters of their life (the first and most important of which is being an Ummah that moves according to the guidance of Allah—Glory be to Him) unless they lose patience.
The consequences of not being patient are horrible in the worldly life: The nation suffers and pays a higher cost. What keeps people away from patience (a particular cost, a particular price, or a particular sacrifice) may cause people to end up facing what is more difficult and even with humiliation, disgrace, persecution, oppression, and intensive hardship (too horrible hardship). That is what happens people have no patience.
That even leads into Jahannam (Allah forbid), as well as suffering horrible pains, and horrible, painful torment, where patience is no longer useful: {‘Be patient or be impatient—it is the same for you’}[At-Tur 52: 16]. It is said to the people of Fire, and they will even say to themselves, {‘it is all the same for us whether we suffer patiently or impatiently, there is no escape for us’}[ Ebrahim 14: 21].
Patience here [in this life] for the sake of obeying Allah (Glory be to Him) is beneficial and fruitful, as well as of great results, good consequences, and of good effects. It is available and possible if we seek the help of Allah (Glory be to Him), and it saves people from horrible matters as well as their horrible ends and consequences: Jahannam (Allah forbid).
That is enough for today.
We ask Allah (Glory be to Him) to grant us success and lead us to what satisfies Him, and to make us of the patient, patient in obeying Him and in what satisfies Him. O Allah (Glory be to You), have mercy on our martyrs, heal the wounded among us, set free our captives, and grant us victory. You are All-Hearing! O Allah, accept our fast, night prayers, and good deeds.
Peace be upon you, as well as the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
