OCCUPIED AL-QUDS January 17. 2024 (Saba) - Zionist historian Professor Ilan Pappe has confirmed that there are indications of the demising the Zionist project, calling on the “Palestinian Liberation Movement” to prepare to fill the void so that a long period of chaos does not prevail, as happened in Syria and other countries in the Arab world and North Africa.
Under the title “The beginning of the ending the Zionist project,” historian Pappe said, in a symposium held last Saturday in the city of Haifa in the Palestinian interior, the beginning of the ending Zionist project is “a long and dangerous phase, and we will not talk about the near future, unfortunately, but rather about the distant future, but we must be ready for that."
He expressed his optimism that “We are at the beginning of the ending the Zionist project, adding “We must be part of the efforts to shorten this period.”
The Zionist historian, professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences and International Studies at the British University of Exeter, and director of the European Center for Palestine Studies, pointed to five indicators of the beginning of the ending the Zionist project, which are:
The first is “the Jewish civil war that we witnessed before the seventh of October, between the secular camp and the religious camp in the Jewish community in Israel.”
He said that the secular society, most of which is European Jewry, seeks an open, liberal life, while it is willing to continue oppressing the Palestinians, even if it is willing to give up parts of the occupied territories in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The opposite trend is represented by the “Jewish State.” He grew up in the settlements established in the West Bank, and aspires to transform “Israel” into a racist Jewish religious state.
Pappe pointed out that these two camps "will witness wars in the future, because "the cement that holds the two together is the security threat, but even this does not seem to be working anymore, and it is failing before our eyes."
The second indicator, according to Pappe, is the unprecedented support for the Palestinian cause in the world and the willingness of most of those involved in the solidarity movement to adopt the anti-apartheid model that helped bring down this regime in South Africa, referring in this context to the movement to boycott “Israel” and divest from it. (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions -BDS).
He said “This is a very important matter... In addition to the framing of “Israel” as an apartheid state by respected non-governmental organizations such as Amnesty International, “Human Rights Watch” and “B’Tselem”, I see that we are entering into a new period, by shifting pressure from society to governments.”
The third indicator is related to the economic factor, as Pappe believes that it “includes the highest gap between those who have and those who do not have, hardly anyone can buy a house, and every year many find themselves below the poverty line.”
He added "Despite the huge spending on the war after October 7, and despite the support of the United States, there is a bleak vision for the future of the economic solidity of the Israeli entity."
The fourth indicator, according to the same historian, is “the inability of the occupation army to protect the Jewish community in the south and north.”
He said in this context: “There are 120,000 refugees displaced from the north, all of them Jews in the Galilee, and there are no Palestinian refugees among them (..) After October 7, the government failed to provide assistance to the families of the dead and wounded.”
The final indicator is the attitude of the new generation of Jews, including in the United States of America, which is in contrast to previous generations, “which, even while criticizing Israel, believed that this country was insurance against another Holocaust or waves of anti-Semitism.”
The Zionist historian said “This assumption is no longer supported by many of the younger generation of Jews and quite a few of them are already active in the solidarity movement with the Palestinians.
This generation leaves Christian fundamentalists as the main basis for the pro-Israel lobby in the future, and not a solid basis for international legitimacy.”
