SANA'A April 28. 2024 (Saba) - Caretaker Minister of Culture Abdullah Al-Kibsi and President of the General Authority of Antiquities and Museums Abbad Al-Hayal inaugurated on Sunday the National Museum and the Popular Heritage Museum.
At the opening, Minister Al-Kibsi pointed out that the opening of the two museums comes after a long period of interruption due to the harsh conditions that the country is going through as a result of the aggression and siege by the agents of the Zionist Western colonialism.
"Yemen has been subjected to a fierce war that affected all areas of life, including museums and antiquities, which were destroyed by the aggression and its mercenaries, and their contents were looted, stolen and looted, especially in the western regions of Hodeidah province and the south and east," he said.
"Yemeni antiquities are sold at international auctions in Europe, Israel and America, and important artifacts are displayed in those auctions because of looting and looting by tamperers, opportunists and agents," he said.
Al-Kibsi pointed to the keenness of the Ministry of Culture and the Antiquities Authority to carry out their responsibilities in preserving Yemen's cultural and historical heritage, improving the pieces and storing them in safe places to protect them and prepare for placing them in their natural place in the museum.
He stressed that paying attention to the Yemeni folk heritage and preserving it is everyone's responsibility, as it contributes to introducing generations to the culture and history of fathers and grandfathers, praising the role of the General Authority of Antiquities in protecting and consolidating the national culture and Yemeni history rich in civilization and ancient heritage.
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Antiquities and Museums Authority Abdullah Thabet pointed out that the authority, despite the difficult circumstances and challenges resulting from the aggression and blockade, made strenuous efforts in preparing and preparing for the opening of the two museums in conjunction with the celebration of International Museum Day.
He stressed that Yemen is full of diverse civilizational and historical heritage that is unparalleled in any country or people, considering Yemen a cultural reservoir in which ancestors excelled and distinguished throughout the eras and periods of history as owners of an authentic and unique civilization.
