WASHINGTON April 30. 2024 (Saba) - Former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, in an interview with Time magazine, criticized Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling him a “failure” and that other leaders can do a good job.
Trump said “The criticism that Netanyahu has been subjected to is justified, due to his failure to prevent al-Aqsa flood operation carried out by Hamas on October 7, and that happened during his term in office.
He continued “October 7 should never have happened. Everything was in place to stop it, a lot of people knew about it, you know thousands of people knew about it, but Israel didn't know about it, and I think Netanyahu is very much to blame for that,” he said.
Asked whether he thought it was time for Netanyahu to leave power and whether he could work better with Gantz, he objected “I think Benny Gantz is a good person, but I'm not ready to say that. I haven't talked to him about it. But there are some very good people I've met in Israel who can do a good job.”
On whether he would consider cutting off military aid to the Zionist entity to get it to withdraw from the war, Trump replied that he “doesn't rule out that possibility, but if Iran attacks Israel, we'll be there.”
Opinion polls in Israel show Netanyahu trailing his main political rival, retired General Benny Gantz, who has called for elections in September. This has left Netanyahu struggling to mobilize public support to stay in office, and Trump has turned on Netanyahu
