GAZA May06. 2024 (Saba) - Hamas said the Zionist enemy government’s decision to close al Jazeera channel’s office in the occupied Palestinian territories a blatant violation of press freedom and comes in retaliation for the channel’s role in exposing the enemy’s crimes.
It said in a press statement carried by the Palestinian Information Center that “The decision of the criminal Netanyahu and his Nazi government to close the office of al Jazeera and prevent it from working and reporting is a flagrant violation of freedom of the press, and an oppressive and retaliatory measure against al Jazeera’s professional role in exposing the crimes and violations committed by the occupation.
Hamas said "Netanyahu's criminal Nazi army and its terrorist settlers are against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank."
It added the decision comes as a culmination of the declared war against journalists who are subjected to systematic Zionist terrorism with the aim of concealing the truth.
Hamas confirmed that the Zionist enemy targeted al Jazeera, and harassed its employees to the point of attempted murder, as happened with martyrs Sherine Abu Aqla, Hamza al-Dahdouh, and Samer Abu Daqqa, and deliberately suppressed and killed all journalists, until the number of martyrs reached 141 journalists in the Gaza Strip during seven months, revealing the falsity of the occupying entity’s claim to freedom of the press and journalistic work.
It stressed that this repression against journalists constitutes a grave violation and suppression of freedoms, which requires placing the entity at the top of the blacklist of countries and entities that practice terrorism and restrictions on journalistic work.
Hamas strongly condemned this occupation decision, calling on international human rights and journalistic institutions to condemn it, and to take punitive measures against the Zionist entity, including canceling its membership in international press institutions and gatherings as a step to force this rogue entity to respect journalistic work, and not to attack journalists who continue their role. Their mission is to uncover the truth and serve humanity.
Head of the occupation government Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on X that his government unanimously decided to close the offices of Al Jazeera, which he described as a channel of incitement.
Officials in the enemy entity and official spokesmen repeatedly attacked al Jazeera after it devoted a wide space to covering the ongoing Zionist war on the Gaza Strip for about seven months, and broadcast video clips showing Israeli marches targeting Palestinian civilians and airdrop aid seekers.
