New York May 09. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations expressed concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing the urgent need for incoming supplies, including fuel, to support humanitarian efforts in the Strip.
United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a press statement that no goods intended for humanitarian operations entered the Gaza Strip through the main crossings, which exacerbates the challenges amid active hostilities.
Dujarric stressed that "the situation is urgent", as major medical facilities are at risk of becoming inaccessible or inoperable.
He noted that one of the three hospitals in Rafah city (Al-Najjar Hospital) was suddenly evacuated yesterday, Tuesday, because it is located in the area subject to evacuation orders sent by the Zionist enemy army.
Dujarric noted that the United Nations remains committed to providing assistance to the residents of Gaza, including more than a million people who have taken refuge in Rafah city.
The Zionist enemy forces began a military operation targeting Rafah city from its eastern side, and forced thousands of Palestinians to forcibly migrate towards the coastal area of Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis city, under harsh humanitarian conditions, which the World Health Organization described as having reached an unprecedented level of emergency.
