ALGERIA July 02. 2024 (Saba) -The Algerian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that the armed forces arrested a number of people in the south of the country as part of the fight against terrorism.
"Within the framework of the fight against terrorism, and thanks to the optimal use of information, joint detachments of the Algerian People's National Army arrested five terrorists," the ministry said in a statement.
The statement added that the arrest came "in two separate operations, during the period from 20 to 23 June, in the operational sector of Bordj Badji Mokhtar and the military sector of Tamanrasset, in the sixth military district, the far south of Algeria."
He continued: "The first operation at the level of the military sector Tamanrasset managed to arrest four terrorists." "The terrorists belong to terrorist groups active in the Sahel region," he said.
The ministry confirmed in its statement that weapons and ammunition were seized by the detainees, including machine guns and pistols.
The Algerian armed forces carried out a second operation in the operational sector of Bordj Badji Mokhtar, which led to the arrest of a fifth terrorist.
"These operations confirm, once again, the effectiveness of the approach adopted by the People's National Army and the efforts made by our armed forces to cleanse our country of the scourge of terrorism and establish security," the Algerian defence statement concluded.
