MOSCOW July 25. 2024 (Saba) - Permanent Russia Representative to the United Nations Vassile Nebenzia has criticized the role of some countries, particularly the United States and its allies, who have worked to add fuel to the fire instead of calming the situation in Yemen.
Nebenzia said on Tuesday the United States and its allies "preferred to use force first, and the coalition led by the United States and Britain against Yemen is blatant."
The Russia delegate noted that his country categorically rejects the use of force in order to influence the conflict in Yemen. He declared that Moscow "stands with the security and safety of global navigation in the Red Sea."
Nebenzia also stressed that the American and British attacks on the sovereign Yemen did not affect the combat capabilities of the Yemeni forces, and the best evidence of this matter is the Yemen's targeting of "Tel Aviv". On the contrary, Yemen has strengthened its presence regionally, and its forces have intensified their attacks on violating ships, and the popularity of Ansar al-Allah has increased after targeting Tel Aviv.
He also pointed out that the targeting of Tel Aviv from Yemen and the response of Israel to the targeting are based on the situation in the Gaza Strip. "The relationship between what is happening in the Gaza Strip and in the Red Sea is clear and denying it is a big mistake committed by some. He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations said Moscow was concerned about the humanitarian situation in Yemen. The agricultural sector has been the most affected, and there is a significant lack of funding for UN programmes for Yemen.
Nebenzia stressed that "the blockade, sanctions and force have only doubled the strength of the supporters of Allah, as the recent attack on Tel Aviv showed. "It is wrong to continue blind Western support for Israel."
In January, both Russia and China rejected military action against Yemen as contrary to the UN Charter.
