MOSCOW September 06. 2024 (Saba) - Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has assured that Russia will appropriately respond to any illegal restrictions on Russian media in the West.
When asked about the sanctions imposed by the United States on Russian media, Peskov stated to the TASS news agency on Friday, "Western countries are using unlawful methods to obstruct the operations of our media abroad. They are impeding the dissemination of information and creating obstacles for Russian journalists working there. In the current environment of heightened confrontation, we must respond in kind. As a result, we will impose reciprocal restrictions, particularly targeting American media."
The United States imposed sanctions yesterday on the Rossiya Segodna media group, Novosti Agency, Russia Today, Sputnik, and Ruptly. The new sanctions also affected the editor-in-chief of the Russia Segodnya Group, Margarita Simonyan, and several senior managers of this television channel.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, since 2022 the countries of the so-called collective West have imposed about 150 different restrictions on Russian media and journalists.
