Ankara - Saba:
Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş last night called for suspending the membership of the occupying entity of the Palestinian territories in the United Nations.
This came in a speech during his participation in the summit of the heads of parliaments of the G20 countries in Brazil, according to the Turkish ‘Anadolu’ agency.
Kurtulmuş explained that they met today to discuss the radical decisions that need to be made for the future and to lay the foundations of a more just system.
‘The failure to implement international law and UN resolutions has turned into ongoing state terrorism in Palestine and Lebanon,’ he said.
He added that based on the Israeli government's declaration of UN Secretary-General António Guterres as ‘persona non grata’ and its attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), ‘it is time to discuss the suspension of Israel's membership in the United Nations.’
He emphasised that it is the shared responsibility of world parliaments to come together around the ‘common good’ to create a world based on justice, equity and peace.
Brazil is hosting the G20 parliamentarians' summit between Wednesday and Friday.
