Cancer Control Fund launches seventh national campaign to raise awareness dangers plastic containers
[Tue, 19 Nov 2024 17:32:47 +0300]

Sana'a - Saba:
The Cancer Control Fund in Sana'a launched today the seventh national campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of overuse of plastics under the slogan “To protect your health and your environment”.

The campaign, which runs until the end of November, aims to raise community awareness of the dangers of overuse of plastic bags in polluting the environment, and the dangers of keeping hot food and drinks in plastic containers through many diseases, the most prominent of which is cancer.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fund, Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Madani, explained to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that this campaign aims to raise the level of community awareness of these dangers, which most members of society are unaware of, and he hopes that everyone will realize the importance of the topic and deal with it responsibly to save his life and health from a deadly danger that surrounds him unknowingly.

He pointed out that many plastic containers are made of vinyl chloride, which many scientific studies have proven to be carcinogenic, noting that these studies confirmed that the average plastic particles that leak into the body by drinking from a plastic cup amounted to about three milligrams per cup.

He stated that the disaster is not only limited to the use of plastic cups and bowls, but the excessive use of bags also poses a danger to the environment and in turn affects human health, stressing that these bags are not biodegradable, even if hundreds of years have passed, and the particles of these bags mix with the soil and water sources to pose a threat to human health and the same degree of risks that we talked about in the human use of plastic bowls and cups in preserving and eating hot food and beverages.

Dr. Al-Madani appealed to all concerned parties to cooperate in confronting this phenomenon, which poses a great danger and a real threat to the safety of the environment and the safety of human health through solidarity and integration in finding alternatives to these materials and making it a permanent social behavior that corrects the course of public life.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Fund called on all community members and institutions to positively interact with the campaign and actively contribute to its success by spreading awareness messages through social media and media platforms to preserve the environment and everyone's health.
