Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, a member of the Supreme Political Council, participated on Thursday in the 40th memorial service for the renowned writer and journalist, Hassan Abdulwarith, editor-in-chief of Al-Wahda newspaper.
The event was organized by the Forum for Modernity and Cultural Enlightenment and the family of the late journalist.
In his speech, Dr. Bin Habtoor expressed his gratitude to the thinkers, intellectuals, media professionals, and attendees who gathered to honor Abdulwarith's legacy.
He emphasized the remarkable nature of the turnout, noting it as a testament to the pride and respect that the Yemeni people continue to hold for the deceased journalist.
Bin Habtoor highlighted Abdulwarith’s dedication to Yemen, stressing that his work in journalism, literature, and constructive criticism reflected his deep connection to the nation and its struggles.
Bin Habtoor also acknowledged the historical moment the country is living through, marked by the ongoing aggression and its impacts on daily life.
He praised Abdulwarith's enlightened thought and his broad, mature perspective on Yemen’s issues, beyond personal or political influences.
The council member called for the preservation of Abdulwarith's legacy, proposing the collection and publication of his works, articles, and poetry to ensure his presence endures in the cultural memory of the nation.
In addition to Dr. Bin Habtoor’s remarks, other speakers at the event, including prominent figures such as Abdulbari Taher, Huda Ablan, Nour Baabad, and others, celebrated Abdulwarith’s unique contributions to Yemeni journalism, literature, and national culture.
