Tehran - Saba:
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has called on Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to demand the destruction of nuclear weapons held by the "Zionist entity."
In a post on "X" platform, Gharibabadi emphasized the significance of Grossi's recent admission that Israel possesses nuclear weapons, calling it a noteworthy development. However, Gharibabadi argued that mere acknowledgment is insufficient and urged Grossi to denounce the existence of these weapons and demand their destruction, as well as Israel's accession to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Furthermore, Gharibabadi criticized Grossi's comments regarding potential nuclear proliferation by Iran, calling them political and unprofessional.
He asserted that Grossi should not base his statements on conjecture or suspicion, as political authorities do, and stressed that Iran remains committed to its obligations under international agreements. However, he added that Iran would not accept monitoring beyond its established commitments, particularly while unjust sanctions remain in place.
Gharibabadi concluded that if Grossi observes any deviation in nuclear materials during verification, he should report it formally rather than speculating publicly.
