A Brazilian study revealed that fires ravaged about 29.7 million hectares of land in Brazil between January and November 2024, which represents the largest area burned in six years and an increase of nearly double compared to the previous year.
The Map Biomass network, a collaborative network specializing in annual mapping of land cover and land use in Brazil, stated that the 2024 fires mainly affected forests, highlighting the need to reduce deforestation and control the use of fires.
