Beijing - Saba:
Beijing plans to build what will be the world's largest airport on an artificial island, but it will not be ready until 2035 in what appears to be an unprecedented project that will change the face of the global aviation industry.
Dalian Jinzhou International Airport will be built on a huge artificial island with an area of 19 million square meters and will include four runways.
The airport will have a passenger terminal with an area of 90,000 square meters for passengers. For comparison, the area of Terminal No. 3 is about 32,000 square meters. Thus, the new airport will become one of China's main aviation hubs in the northeast of the country.
After its completion, it will be larger than Hong Kong (HKG) and Kansai Airport in Japan (KIX).
The giant airport will be able to accommodate 80 million passengers annually via 540,000 flights, compared to Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport in the city, which has been operating for nearly a century and has reached its maximum capacity of 70 million passengers.
