Baghdad - Saba:
The Iraqi president on Saturday stressed the need for consolidating unity in Iraq, stressing the commitment not to allow the use of Iraqi lands as a launching pad for aggression against any of its neighbors.
The loss of Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim "is a great loss, but the consolation in that is to continue working for the values for which the martyred Sayyid and all the martyrs of freedom sacrificed, namely the values of truth, justice, equality and peace," President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid said in a speech to the memorial ceremony on the annual occasion of the martyrdom of Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim.
These are "the values of democratic Iraq, which faced many challenges and difficulties until it overcame many difficulties and the principles of the state were established, and efforts were combined in the process of construction and in defeating terrorism and extremism and consolidating societal peace."
"We have achieved a lot in this path, and we still have a lot ahead of us, especially in these regional circumstances that threaten all countries in the region, and we are keen to overcome their effects through dialogue, understanding, and continuing the policy of combating terrorism and unifying everyone's efforts for the sake of security, peace, construction, and progress that restores the region's security, peace, and the aspirations of its people for a free and dignified life," Rashid added.
He stated that "this endeavor - for which the Iraqi government is working, along with the public forces of its various components and spectrums - requires diligent work to strengthen the unity of Iraqis, give priority to the supreme national interests, achieve the people's demands for social justice, complete the process of providing services in all fields, preserve public money, and fight corruption in all its forms and from any party."
"The risks should not be underestimated, but at the same time, we are confident in the will of the Iraqis and their unity in facing the challenges, for the sake of a free, independent and dignified Iraq, committed to not attacking others, and striving to establish the principles of dialogue and preserve the just rights of all, especially for our brothers in Palestine, whose right to a safe life and in their independent state we support."
In the same context, the Iraqi president stressed his "keenness for the brotherly Syrian people to overcome the difficult circumstances, by supporting the rebuilding of their independent state within the approach of fair democracy that preserves the rights of all components of the Syrian people."
He also stressed Iraq's support for the Lebanese people to overcome these circumstances, adding: "We continue our support in a way that helps mitigate the effects of the ordeal on the lives of the Lebanese, and we stress the importance of consolidating the unity of the people in Lebanon, and their right to a safe and stable life, and rebuilding the cities, villages and institutions that were damaged in the war."
"We have bid farewell to a year that was regionally a year of war disasters, and this requires great work and efforts from us in the region to help overcome this stage, and it also requires real international support to end this abnormal situation, and to support the brotherly peoples in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria."
The Iraqi president concluded his speech by emphasizing "the importance of consolidating our unity in Iraq and our country's strategy based on preserving Iraq's independence, unity, security and safety, and we are committed to not allowing its lands to be used as a launching pad for aggression against any of its neighbors."
