Washington - Saba:
The US State Department has "unofficially" notified Congress of a potential $8 billion arms deal for the Zionist entity.
According to the American website "Axios" last night, the deal includes ammunition for fighter jets and attack helicopters, and artillery shells.
The website quoted two senior American sources as saying that this deal may be the last arms sale to the Zionist entity approved by the administration of US President Joe Biden.
The United States has provided more than $18 billion to the Zionist entity in its war on Gaza and its aggression against Lebanon, in addition to political and diplomatic support, and continues to ignore "Israel's" failure to abide by international law and persistently denies access of humanitarian aid, food and medicine to Gaza, despite the fact that US law stipulates that countries that prevent the arrival of humanitarian aid are prohibited from arming.
The Biden administration had suspended sending a single shipment of weapons to the entity, for specific types, stipulating that humanitarian aid be allowed into the Gaza Strip in order to send the shipment.
This is a long-term deal, the two sources told Axios, noting that part of the production and delivery of the ammunition may come from the current US stockpile, while the remaining bulk will require a year or two to complete its delivery.
The two sources stated that the arms deal, which requires the approval of the House and Senate Foreign Relations Committees, includes air-to-air missiles used by fighter jets to intercept airborne projectiles, including drones. It also includes ammunition and missiles used by helicopters.
The proposed deal also includes small-sized bombs and Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) that are mounted on unguided or so-called "blind" bombs, which weigh about 900 kilograms, and turn them into GPS-guided bombs.
Commenting on this, a source familiar with the arms deal told Axios: The US State Department informed Congress that the arms sales aim to "support Israel's long-term security by replenishing its stockpile of vital munitions and air defense capabilities."
A US official told the website: "The President (Biden) made clear that Israel has the right to defend its citizens, in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law, and to deter aggression from Iran and its proxy organizations. We will continue to provide the capabilities necessary for Israel's defense," in continuation of the central role that Washington has played in the war of extermination that the occupation has been waging on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, by supporting the occupation army with all its needs.
