Hodeida - Saba:
Doraihimi Agricultural Cooperative Association in Hodeida Governorate has begun implementing a field survey to collect detailed data on farmers and the areas of fields that will be cultivated within the framework of contract farming in Doraihimi District.
The survey aims to limit and provide an accurate and detailed database and information on the actual farmers with whom the association has concluded contract farming contracts, to follow up on their interest in implementing those contracts, and their commitment to cultivating the areas that enable them to provide the agreed upon quantities of crops, chief of the association Told Saba.
The survey is needed to establish a correct database for producers, which contributes to improving services and providing the needs of agricultural supplies, equipment and inputs in general, which enables them to increase agricultural production rates to meet the market's needs for local agricultural products and achieve profitable returns that farmers benefit from, Jaber Al-Kayyal added.
Al-Kayyal stated that there is a field coordination team that collects farmers' data using forms, with details related to agricultural aspects, field areas, type of crops grown, needs for agricultural production inputs, etc.
Contract farming is a practical and comprehensive solution to enhance food security programs, as it relies on concluding prior contracts between farmers (through agricultural associations) and purchasing entities, such as food manufacturing companies or traders, which provides marketing guarantees to farmers at fixed or agreed prices.
Its importance lies in the fact that it is one of the important and necessary policies for achieving sustainable agricultural development, and works to link small farmers through cooperative associations to ensure the marketing of their products, and enhance opportunities to increase agricultural production levels.
