Sana'a - Saba:
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Administration and Local and Rural Development Mohammed al-Madani on Tuesday emphasized the critical role of development cooperative associations in achieving sustainable development in villages, districts, and governorate directorates.
His remarks were made during an expanded meeting in Sana'a province's northern sector to discuss the current status of these associations.
Al-Madani underscored the government's commitment to promoting sustainable development in key sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and infrastructure, despite the ongoing aggression and siege.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by some associations, citing performance issues and their inability to meet required expectations. He stressed that, in the face of continued foreign aggression, there is a pressing need to activate the role of these associations in developing local communities.
The Deputy Prime Minister called for a stronger role of the associations at the district level to decentralize development work, enhance the economy, and position these societies as central to the nation's economic growth.
He highlighted Sana'a Governorate as a pioneer in establishing and supporting such associations, with a focus on overcoming obstacles and restoring public confidence in these initiatives.
Governor Abdulbasit al-Hadi pointed out the enemy's attempts to hinder development efforts by manipulating local societies through long-term loans, leading to their transformation into unproductive consumer entities. He emphasized the importance of coordination between sector associations and local societies to create participatory work that can effectively serve the citizens.
Governor al-Hadi also called for renewed mechanisms for the associations' operations, particularly in advancing agriculture to achieve self-sufficiency in key crops, and highlighted the Leader of the Revolution's focus on the success of these efforts, particularly in reducing reliance on external food and medicine sources.
The meeting, attended by various local and ministry officials, reviewed the achievement report of the Northern Sector Association for the years 1442-1445 AH. The report highlighted the completion of 884 activities in community building, education, agriculture, water, and road projects, benefiting over 162,000 citizens, with a total cost of 1.7 billion riyals.
The meeting also addressed obstacles to progress and issued recommendations, including organizing future meetings with sector associations and relevant ministries to enhance the development efforts, as well as discussions on creating mechanisms to protect domestic agricultural products like raisins, fruits, and garlic from importation and smuggling.
The participants agreed on the importance of continuous support for development initiatives and pledged to strengthen collaboration between the government, local associations, and communities to achieve sustainable growth.
