Washington - Saba:
The US military has deployed thousands of soldiers to protect the US border with Mexico, according to CNN, citing local sources.
The network said: "Thousands of additional US soldiers are set to be deployed to the southern border with Mexico in the next two days after President Donald Trump ordered an increased military presence in the region."
Some 2,200 soldiers are currently on the border as part of the Border Task Force, based in Texas, and their duties include logistical support, surveillance and statistical data work.
The reinforcements will perform similar tasks, including supporting patrol readiness, addressing threats and migrant flows and helping to coordinate procedures.
This comes against the backdrop of Donald Trump's inauguration as president of the United States, and Trump has pledged to take anti-immigration measures as his first steps after taking office.
