The Israeli occupation army admitted in an official investigation its abject failure in confronting the October 7, 2023 attack, confirming that Hamas was able to subdue the Gaza Division within hours.
The investigations, published by Israeli Channel 12, revealed that intelligence failed to monitor the plans of Yahya Sinwar, who had been preparing for the attack since 2014. The army also admitted that its failure on the night of the attack led to unbearable losses of life.
The report indicated that the collapse of the Gaza Division headquarters hindered the ability to understand the field situation, which affected the decisions of the army leaders. It confirmed that the previous belief in the possibility of taming Hamas was wrong, as more than 5,600 fighters from the movement entered the settlements in three stages.
The investigation indicated that the occupation relied on security doctrines that have collapsed, including considering Gaza a marginal enemy and Hamas a movement that can be deterred, Channel 12 commented, saying: "Hamas has completely shattered the Israeli security theory".
