Washington - Saba:
A massive demonstration was held in Washington DC and New York City on Sunday in support of Palestine and to demand the release of Palestinian student activist Mahmoud Khalil.
US authorities recently arrested Khalil for leading protests at Columbia University last year to denounce the genocide committed by Israel in Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian News Agency Protesters gathered in Washington near the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building.
The demonstrators held signs with slogans such as "Free Palestine," "Release Mahmoud Khalil," and "ICE, get off our campuses."
One protester said: "The attacks on Mahmoud Khalil are not limited to one person, they are attacks on everyone who dares to demand and support justice."
The protesters, who carried Palestinian flags and signs reading "Release Mahmoud Khalil," explained that the Palestinian activist's right to protest is guaranteed by law.
Last Sunday, US authorities arrested the Palestinian student who led solidarity protests at Columbia University last year, denouncing the genocide committed by the Zionist enemy in Gaza Strip.
Last January, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order related to "combating anti-Semitism," which allows the deportation of students who participate in pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
The university experienced a tense atmosphere last week after police intervened to break up student protests against former Zionist Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's visit to their university, which led to clashes that resulted in the arrest of some protesters.
