Occupied Quds - Saba:
Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to dismiss him on Monday, stressing that the decision "is not related to the agency's failure in the events of October 7, but rather stems from personal and political disagreements."
The Shin Bet director set conditions for his termination, while insisting on his refusal to resign, and accused Netanyahu of failure and dereliction of duty.
In a statement published by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Bar said he would remain in his position until the mission to return all prisoners is completed. He called for the formation of an investigative committee with all parties, including political and governmental figures, as well as the prime minister, considering this a necessity for public security.
Netanyahu's office announced that he had decided to dismiss Bar.
The prime minister met with Bar and informed him that he would present the decision to dismiss him to the government.
Israeli Channel 12 also reported that Netanyahu summoned Bar for an emergency meeting and would submit a proposal to the government to dismiss him.
For her part, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara warned Netanyahu against proceeding with the dismissal before completing a review of the legal grounds for the decision. Justice Minister Yariv Levin expressed full support for Netanyahu, stressing that "only the government has the legal authority to terminate the term of the Shin Bet chief."
