Pyongyang - Saba:
North Korea has categorically rejected the call by the G7 countries to abandon its nuclear weapons, describing it as unacceptable and inconsistent with its sovereign rights.
Pyongyang's rejection came in a statement issued by the North Korean Foreign Ministry, which noted that the G7 is the group that focuses on "illegal and malign nuclear proliferation."
In its statement issued Monday, North Korea asserted that its nuclear weapons development falls within its sovereign rights, criticizing the G7's practices of using "nuclear sharing" or "providing extended deterrence" to achieve its goals.
The statement added: "The G7 has turned into a nuclear criminal group that seriously threatens global peace and security. It must abandon its outdated ambitions for nuclear hegemony before it can even talk about denuclearization."
Pyongyang emphasized that its status as a nuclear state is enshrined in its constitution and will not change whether other countries recognize it or not. It also threatened to strengthen its nuclear arsenal in quantity and quality, indicating that this step comes in response to the external nuclear threats it faces.
The statement concluded by affirming that North Korea will continue to modernize and strengthen its nuclear armed forces in accordance with its constitution and domestic laws, to ensure its security and sovereignty in the face of what it described as "external threats."
