Paris - Saba:
Fan violence in France led to the cancellation of the match between Montpellier and Saint-Étienne on Sunday evening, in the 26th round of the Ligue 1 football league.
Chaos erupted in the stands after Montpellier conceded a second goal early in the second half of the match, with some home fans throwing fireworks onto the pitch at the Stade de la Mosson and setting fires.
According to the British newspaper "The Sun," this caused a halt to play for approximately three minutes, before the match resumed briefly. However, it turned out that a fire had broken out in the front section of the Montpellier fans' stand.
Fans were seen running to the back of the stands as a column of black smoke rose alarmingly from the fire.
The referee stopped the game and sent the players to the locker room while the fire continued to rage.
About half an hour later, fans were instructed to evacuate the stadium, and the decision was made to abandon the match.
