Sydney - Saba:
A new study predicts that hot weather will double the burden of cardiovascular disease in Australia by the 2050s. Hot weather currently accounts for 7.3% of the total heart disease burden.
The study, published in the European Heart Journal, indicates that this figure could double or even triple by 2050 if greenhouse gas emissions continue. The data showed that hot weather resulted in the loss of approximately 50,000 years of healthy life annually between 2003 and 2018.
The study emphasizes the need for climate change adaptation measures, such as urban cooling and public health campaigns, to reduce the future impact of heat-related heart disease, a global concern.
