Gaza – Saba:
The head of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, Younis al-Khatib, held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the safety and lives of its nine paramedics, who have been besieged by Israeli occupation forces for eight days in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood of Rafah.
He added in a press conference held in front of the society's headquarters in al-Bireh on Sunday that the paramedics' fate remains unknown after the occupation forces opened direct fire on them, wounding several of them, before contact with them was lost about a week ago. The paramedics responded to a call to provide first aid to a number of those injured in an Israeli shelling in the Hashashin area of Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
He said: "Not knowing the fate of our paramedic colleagues is a great tragedy, not only for us at the Palestinian Red Crescent, but also for humanitarian work and humanity, especially since, from the first moment of their siege, the occupation authorities have been delaying allowing their crews to enter the area to determine the fate of their colleagues."
He emphasized that the enemy's targeting of Red Crescent paramedics and their international emblem can only be considered a premeditated crime punishable under international humanitarian law, which the enemy continues to violate in full view of the entire world, without taking serious steps to prevent these flagrant violations of international conventions.
He explained that the enemy has targeted 34 ambulances, putting them out of service since the beginning of the aggression on October 7, 2023.
