The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that Washington will increase the number of aircraft carriers deployed in the Middle East to two, a second carrier currently stationed in the Indo-Pacific region will join those currently stationed in the Gulf.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement: "The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson will join the aircraft carrier USS Harry S, Truman to continue promoting regional stability, deterring any aggression, and protecting the free flow of commerce in the region."
