A group of independent human rights experts confirmed on Monday that Israel's actions in Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories are leading to a massacre of Palestinians.
The experts said on Monday, according to the Russia Today website: "We are witnessing the destruction of Palestinian lives. If they are not killed by bombs or bullets, they are slowly suffocating due to the lack of the most basic means of survival. The only difference is the means and speed of death."
They explained that "since Israel completely violated the fragile ceasefire on March 18, continuous bombing has resumed, and artillery fire has become more aggressive than ever."
The experts added: "The extrajudicial killings and mass graves in the context of Israel's chaotic operations in Gaza are further evidence of genocidal intent. International investigators have not yet been allowed into Gaza to access these and other sites where possible atrocities occurred, to preserve vital evidence and pursue truth and accountability."
They continued: "Israel's policies are more extreme than anything we have witnessed since October 7, 2023, as it has intensified its genocidal assault against all Palestinians, including in the occupied West Bank."
The experts noted that states have a clear obligation to ensure Israel's compliance with international law, including by putting an end to Israel's genocide and other grave violations against Palestinians.
They added: "It must be clear to all states that their continued support for 'Israel's material and political consequences, particularly the continued transfer of weapons and fuel, violates its obligation to prevent genocide and threatens its complicity in it," the experts said.
"The longer impunity persists, the more irrelevant international law and the Geneva Conventions become. Failure to do so will only lead to further chaos, instability, aggression, and conflict, with civilians paying the ultimate price—with their lives."
