Police in the southern Florida city of Boca Raton announced that a small plane crashed Friday morning near a major highway and railroad tracks.
Emergency crews are examining the site of a small plane crash in Boca Raton, Florida.
City police said in a social media post that several roads near the Boca Raton airport were closed near Interstate 95 shortly after the plane crashed around 10 a.m.
City fire officials told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that the plane apparently pushed a car into the railroad tracks, blocking them. The fate of the car's occupants was not known.
The Associated Press quoted a statement by Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer as saying: "It is with great sadness and sorrow that we confirm an airplane crash earlier today in our city."
"At this time, details are still unfolding, and we are working closely with emergency crews and authorities. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic incident. We wish the families of the victims peace of mind as the investigations continue."
