During a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, in Moscow on Friday, April 18, 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that the political dialogue between Russia and Iran is "intensive," and that relations between the two countries are moving in a positive direction at various levels.
Lavrov explained that trade between the two countries increased by 13%, indicating deepening economic cooperation. He emphasized the importance of the Joint Partnership Treaty, which strengthens bilateral relations and opens new horizons for strategic cooperation.
He also emphasized the agreement between Moscow and Tehran on the need to respect international law and the UN Charter and reject the illegal sanctions imposed on Iran. He announced Russia's readiness to support any agreements that take into account Iranian interests.
Regarding the negotiations between Washington and Tehran, Lavrov expressed Russia's welcome for reaching fair agreements, stressing his country's readiness to support dialogue between the two sides to achieve peaceful solutions that take into account their common interests.
