Meeting in Sana'a discusses mechanism for improving performance of Water Resources Authority

Sana'a - Saba:

A meeting in the capital Sana'a, chaired by Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Dr. Radwan al-Rubai, discussed on Saturday mechanisms for improving and developing the performance of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities.

During the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture emphasized the importance of expediting the formation of a specialized working group to review and prepare the foundations, standards, and controls related to the development and management of water resources, which will contribute to enhancing performance efficiency and achieving sustainable development goals.

He emphasized the completion of the Authority's automation project as part of the Ministry's comprehensive digital transformation program, along with activating network connectivity and using modern electronic systems in administrative and technical procedures.

Al-Rubai urged the activation of the Authority's role in supporting community initiatives aimed at establishing water barriers to harvest rainwater, and developing digital solutions to enhance groundwater recharge and reduce its depletion, in implementation of the directives of the revolutionary and political leadership.

He also highlighted the importance of activating the Water Resources Unit for agricultural associations as an alternative to the irrigation unit, and appointing a coordinator for the unit in each directorate to ensure improved performance.

Engineer Hadi Quraiah, Chairman of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities, reviewed the Authority's efforts to develop scientific foundations for water resources development and update its public policies.

He stated that the Authority is currently working on preparing a memorandum of understanding with the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority and the Oil Exploration and Production Authority to ensure integrated efforts, exchange of data, and consultations to protect groundwater reserves from pollution during exploration operations, and cooperate in the development and recharge of water basins.

Engineer Quraiah also highlighted the importance of raising community awareness about the rational use of water, which will contribute to the sustainability of this vital resource for future generations.
