Beijing - Saba:
China announced on Tuesday the commencement of production at a newly developed oil field in the Bohai Sea, marking a significant step in the country's offshore energy exploration.
The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) stated in a statement that the "Kenli 10-2" oil field, located in the southern waters of the Bohai Sea, is the largest shale oil field discovered in Chinese offshore areas to date, with proven geological reserves exceeding 100 million tons.
The company added that the first phase of development includes the start of production from 79 development wells, with a maximum daily production expected to reach 3,000 tons of oil and gas equivalent. The oil field will also undergo a second phase of development.
Yan Hongtao, Deputy General Manager of CNOOC, said that the successful launch of the first phase of the Kenle 10-2 oil field cluster marks a new era in the development of complex offshore heavy oil reservoirs in China, adding that it is a key step toward achieving the company's annual production target of 40 million tons from oil fields in the Bohai Sea this year.
