Moscow – Saba:
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on Friday that 120 aftershocks have been recorded in the past 24 hours following the powerful earthquake that struck the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East last Wednesday.
The ministry reported that some of the tremors were felt by residents, with intensities ranging from 2 to 5 on the Richter scale, while the magnitudes of the recorded aftershocks ranged between 3.5 and 6.7.
One of the strongest aftershocks was recorded today, measuring 5.6 in magnitude and occurring 204 kilometers from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Russian authorities have warned tourists to stay away from Avachinsky Volcano due to ongoing seismic activity, and have advised avoiding other active volcanoes such as Bezymianny, Shiveluch, Klyuchevskoy, and Karymsky.
Last Wednesday's earthquake, which struck the Kamchatka region with a magnitude of 8.7, was described as the strongest since 1952, prompting tsunami warnings along Pacific coastlines.
