[08/ September/2020]

SANAA, Sep. 8 (Saba) – Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein al-Ezzi on Tuesday met with the Acting Head of Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Capital Sanaa Alexander Ekoy.

During the meeting, al-Ezzi and Ikoy discussed areas of existing cooperation between the National Salvation Government and the ICRC and ways to enhance and develop them.

In the meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister touched on the latest developments in the humanitarian situation in Yemen resulting from the aggression and siege, including the continued detention of oil ships and preventing them from entering the port of Hodeidah, which will lead to an unfortunate humanitarian catastrophe.

A-Ezzi pointed out that the government had to take a decision to stop all incoming flights to Sanaa International Airport due to the lack of oil products needed to operate it due to the continued blockade and the aggression’s coalition countries prevention of entry of oil ships to Hodeidah port.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the countries of aggression continue to practice a policy of collective punishment for the Yemeni people, and use starvation as a weapon of war in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

He stressed the need for the international community and humanitarian organizations to play their role in pressuring the aggression countries to tend to peace and end the aggression, siege and suffering that the Yemeni people endure for the sixth year in a row.

The Deputy Minister praised the role played by the ICRC delegation in the humanitarian aspect, reaffirming the government's readiness to provide all necessary facilities to the mission and its staff.

For his part, the ICRC official emphasized that the ICRC delegation is keen to provide all possible support to the Yemeni people in order to alleviate its humanitarian suffering.
