SANA’A, Jan. 3 (Saba) –This is a Yemeni dagger. It’s called a Jambiya. It use this at weddings, parties and holidays. There are many types of Jambiya in Yemen.
Yemeni men have a unique way to show off their wealth and social class .
The Yemeni jambiya generally has a curved, double-edged blade.
The steel blade is stored in a sheath, made of wood covered with metal or cloth. Various ornaments on the sheath add to its beauty and represent status.
Jambiya is commonly used in traditional events, which feature dancing.
In the centuries-old market of San'a, Yemeni men who already proudly wear fine daggers, cluster around shop windows to gaze longingly at new jambiya blades.
