[12/ July/2023]
TEHRAN July 12. 2023 (Saba) - The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned on Wednesday the Russian ambassador to protest the content of the final statement of the sixth round of strategic talks between the foreign ministers of Russia and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Tasnim International News Agency said “Following the issues mentioned in the final statement of the sixth round of strategic talks between the foreign ministers of Russia and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council regarding the three Iranian islands, Abu Musa, Greater and Lesser Tunbs, the Russian ambassador was summoned this morning by an assistant, Minister and Director General for Gulf Affairs Ali Reza Enayati to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Russian ambassador was informed of Iran's protest against the content of the aforementioned statement.

In the meeting, the Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister called for correcting the position of the Russian Federation on this issue, stressing the eternal affiliation of the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb to Iran.

In turn, the Russian ambassador to Iran emphasized respect for Iran's territorial integrity, saying that he would transfer the matter to Moscow as soon as possible.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani considered what was stated in the joint statement of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Russia regarding the three Iranian islands unacceptable, and said these islands belong to Iran forever, and issuing such statements contradicts the friendly relations between Iran and its neighbors.
