Meeting chaired by Attorney General discusses ways to improve prison conditions & prisoner care

SANA'A November 12. 2023 (Saba)-A meeting in Sana'a headed today,Sunday, by Attorney General Judge Dr. Muhammad Muhammad al-Dailami, discussed issues related to the care of male, female prisoners and improving prison conditions.

In the meeting, which included the Deputy Chairman of the Human Rights, Public Liberties and Civil Society Committee in the Shura Council, Dirham Al-Zakari, Committee member Ahmed Al-Dhafri, Deputy Head of the Technical Office in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the heads of prosecution in the Capital Secretariat, the head of the Rehabilitation and Reform Department, and the directors of the Central Correctional Facility and the reserve prisons in the Secretariat, the absorptive capacity was reviewed.

Prisons, the capabilities provided for housing prisoners, rehabilitating prisons, and the possibility of finding housing - special houses to care for released female prisoners.

The meeting touched on issues and proposals related to insolvent prisoners, and approved procedures to ensure the speedy issuance of insolvency rulings, and coordination with the Zakat Authority, the Chamber of Commerce, the concerned and civil authorities to mobilize aid to pay their private rights awarded to others and release them, in accordance with the standards and controls approved in this aspect by the Judiciary.

The Public Prosecutor stressed the application of the text of Article 195 of Penal Procedures, which stipulates the compulsory release of prisoners for non-serious crimes during investigation if seven days have passed since the date of his interrogation and the maximum penalty does not exceed one year, they do not have a history, and in non-serious complaint crimes on bail residence.

Judge Al-Dailami directed the conditional release of prisoners who had served three-quarters of their term and whose conduct behavior had been proven, and the transfer of sentenced prisoners from reserve prisons to central prisons.

He appreciated the follow-up and attention of the Revolution Leader and the President of the Supreme Political Council to prison conditions, and to support the efforts of justice agencies in carrying out their role in protecting society, defending rights, achieving security , stability, and consolidating the foundations of a just state.
