Qatari PM says military solution will not solve escalation crisis in Red Sea
[16/ January/2024]
DAVOS January 16. 2024 (Saba) - Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Thani confirmed Tuesday that a military solution will not solve the escalation crisis in the Red Sea.

The Qatari Prime Minister said during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that the situation in the Red Sea is “extremely dangerous,” because its impact “affects the entire world, and is not limited to the region only.”

He stressed that "the military option will not solve the current crisis in the Red Sea," but rather will create "a great danger of further escalation."

He continued saying "The international community must focus on diplomacy and resolving the main conflict in Gaza. Once it is defused, everything else will be defused, and the escalation on other fronts will stop."

Al-Thani spoke about "the Gulf countries understanding the necessity of focusing on developing relations with Iran, establishing a better platform with it regarding common interests, and agreeing on differences and regional issues as well, through dialogue and meetings."

He also stressed that “Qatar believes that there is a great opportunity to achieve this,” adding “Just imagine the possibilities if the Gulf states cooperate with Iran economically and the impact that will have on the security of the region.”

Commenting on a question about the Iranian missile attack on the headquarters of Mossad and ISIS, the Qatari Prime Minister said "We cannot separate the events of the region from each other."

He added "Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries are neighboring countries, and rapprochement between us is necessary and not an option. If the Gulf countries and Iran come together economically, this will have an impact on security in the region."
