BULIN April 07. 2024 (Saba) - The Irish National Treasury Management Agency has decided to withdraw the Irish Strategic Investment Fund's investments from Zionist companies that "have certain activities in the occupied Palestinian territories."
Media reports reported on Saturday that the total amount withdrawn amounted to 2.95 million euros ($3.2 million) from the following companies, most of which were banks: Bank Hapoalim, Bank Leumi, Mizrahi Tefahot Bank, and Rami Levy Stores.
The decision came after pressure from the main opposition party, Sinn Féin, and the left-wing Irish Republican Party is currently pushing a bill in Parliament calling for the complete liquidation of Zionist companies operating in enemy settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Sinn Fein member of Parliament John Brady said on Friday: Divestment is not enough.
“Sinn Fein has pushed the government this far, but today’s announcement does not go far enough and should be just the beginning,” Brady explained in a statement published on Sinn Fein’s website.
In the same context, it is noted that “Ireland traditionally has strong feelings in favor of and love for the Palestinians and hostile to the Zionist enemy, as many Irish Republicans likened their battle with the United Kingdom to the Palestinian conflict with “Israel.”
