GENEVA April 17. 2024 (Saba) - Chairman of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Navanethem "Navi" Pillay has confirmed that the Zionist siege imposed on the Gaza Strip since last October led to an unimaginable humanitarian catastrophe.

This came in a meeting entitled “Briefing of the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including al-Quds and the occupied territories, under the auspices of the Permanent Representation of Egypt at the United Nations Office in Geneva.”

The meeting was attended by Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ambassador Gamal El-Din, Turkey's Permanent Representative Ambassador Guven Begi and representatives of many countries.

Speaking after the opening speech delivered by Jamal al-Din, Committee Chairwoman Pillay touched on the latest developments in the Middle East, referring to the tension between the Zionist enemy and Iran.

She indicated that they prepared four reports after the establishment of the committee in 2021 and presented them to the United Nations Human Rights Council and the United Nations General Assembly, and that they generally discussed issues such as the use of force by the Zionist enemy soldiers in the occupied Palestinian territories, increasing armament, and narrowing the civilian scope.

She explained that the committee focused all its work on the current aggression against Gaza since the seventh of last October and is investigating the measures taken.

Pillay stressed that the Zionist enemy launched an unprecedented war on the people of Gaza and that more than 33 thousand Palestinians were martyred in this war, more than half of whom were children and women.
