BRUSSELS April 18. 2024 (Saba) - The European Council on Thursday reaffirmed its commitment to work with its partners to reach an immediate ceasefire and secure aid access to the Gaza Strip.
According to Ma'an News Agency, the Council stressed in its final statement at the end of its two-day meetings in Brussels, the full commitment of the European Union to contribute to de-escalation and security in the Middle East.
He reiterated the importance of implementing Security Council Resolution 2728 on the ceasefire in Gaza, while stressing the EU's firm commitment to achieving lasting peace.
On March 25, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2728, demanding an immediate ceasefire within a month Ramadan respected by all parties leading to a "permanent and sustainable ceasefire," with 14 members in favor and the United States abstaining.
