WHO: Situation in Gaza standardly catastrophic
[27/ April/2024]
GENEVA April 27. 2024 (Saba) - The situation in Gaza is standardly catastrophic, WHO regional director for Eastern Mediterranean Region said on Saturday, after 200 days of Israeli bombing on the sieged Strip.

The whole Strip of Gaza became unlivable land, Hanan Balkhy added in a statement, as 1.7 million displaced persons had to leave "to flee unprecedented bombing."

Deprivation from basic needs is inhumane and intolerable practice, she said, warning that if it persists, this situation portends further casualties and looming famine and epidemics.

Health facilities are still a target of Israeli repeated assaults, WHO official added, as 31 hospitals were bombed since 7 October 2023.

Balkhy called for swift, unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza Strip, for lasting ceasefire, and for secured, safe movement of assistance inside Gaza.
