Russian Bogdanov says Operation in Rafah could turn into humanitarian catastrophe
[07/ May/2024]
GAZA May 07. 2024 (Saba) - Russian President's Special Envoy to the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on Tuesday emphasized that any possible Zionist operation in Rafah could turn into a humanitarian catastrophe.

Bogdanov was quoted by the Russian news agency "Novosti" as saying that "Many civilians, more than one and a half million people, are now concentrated in the southern Gaza Strip in the Rafah area."

He confirmed that there will be a humanitarian catastrophe for Zionist army.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that a Zionist invasion of Rafah would be "intolerable."

Hamas announced on Monday that it had informed the Qatari and Egyptian mediators that it agreed to their proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

On Tuesday, the Zionist army announced that it had taken control of the Palestinian part of the Rafah crossing, cut off the road between the crossing and the Salah al-Din road and bombed 100 targets overnight.

The Zionist army began evacuating the eastern neighborhoods of Rafah since Monday evening in preparation for the start of ground operations in the area, despite Egypt's strong opposition to the invasion of Rafah.

The Zionist incursion came despite international and UN opposition, fearing a humanitarian catastrophe in the area, which is home to about 1.5 million Palestinians.
